Beside the Holm Oak Tree

Why I am Still Catholic.

There has been much written, speculated upon and reported about the sexual abuse scandal in the Church.  It has been difficult to hear and feelings of anger, distrust and disbelief are normal.  But no matter what anyone does in the Church, they do not define the Catholic Church.  The Church is made up of people all of whom are sinners.  Some have violated not only moral truths but the very oaths they took at their ordinations.

Just like the fact that I am not a Catholic because I like Fr. So and So and I am not Catholic because I like a particular parish or even the Pope, I also will not leave the Church because of any particular priest, parish or pope.

The Catholic Church is the Church founded by Christ.  That is why I belong to it and will remain in it.

Obviously, changes are needed and Christ is bringing those changes through the revelations of wrongdoing.  The Church may become smaller, but it will be comprised of those who chosen to persevere in times of trouble and persecution.
