Description
100% Olive oil burned for nine days in Italy and 9 days in Ireland before a relic of St. Teresa of Avila.
Resolving to correct the laxity in the convents of the Carmelite order in the 16th century, St. Teresa supported by the Franciscan priest, Peter of Alcantara formed the Order of Discalced Carmelites. She had extensive travels bringing more rigid practices and contemplation to the Carmelites. She convinced Carmelite friars, John of the Cross and Anthony of Jesus to bring reforms to establish the first monastery of Discalced Carmelite brothers.
Through her teachings and writings on the contemplative life, St. Teresa was named a Doctor of the Church in 1970.
