The brown cord is 36 inches in length (18 inches front to back) and features the image of Mary presenting the Scapular to St. Simon Stock, with her promise for wearers of this sacramental, and attached crucifix, and round Saint Benedict Medal. This scapular also includes the blessing for the Garment of Grace (in both Latin and English) and an explanation of the St. Benedict medal attached to the scapular.
One should be enrolled in the Brown Scapular Confraternity. This is a simple ceremony which can be performed by any priest
If you were ever enrolled in the past, even as a child, no further blessing is necessary to wear the scapular.
